I'm sure you've been in a position before where you had to do some sort of public speaking. Even presenting to a small group of people can be super anxiety-inducing.

I know it may seem like I have no fear when it comes to public speaking. I mean, I have this podcast, I have my online courses, I do coaching calls, I go live on Instagram, I put videos on YouTube. Those are all, in a way, forms of public speaking, right? So I should be a pro. It should be totally easy for me.

Wrong.

It's still hard! I still experience anxiety when it comes to things like giving talks at events or conferences. I still get anxiety going live. I mean, there's no way to edit those, you know? Whatever I say...that's it. So, yeah, it's still scary. But I still show up every day.

There she goes again. It's that salon you can't stop looking up. The artist on Instagram that just landed another celebrity client. The studio whose grid is so masterfully curated it makes you turn totally green with envy.   

Social media is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, it helps so many of us build our business, right? You know the story; I was able to build my multi six-figure business just through Instagram alone. I owe a lot to it. But it can also be the source of extreme jealousy.

In the beauty industry, it can seem like every time another salon, studio, or artist succeeds, it means you're failing. It's not a fun cycle to be in. You see someone you're jealous of experience success, you start to get down on yourself for not hitting that achievement or being right where they are or better, you get angry with them, and then you feel shameful that you're even experiencing these feelings.

Listen, you're not that raging green monster...

Immigrants come to the US in search for a better life. They're prepared to hustle, work their butts off, and do whatever it takes to provide for themselves and their families. It's not an easy road to take.

I talk a lot about being an immigrant. I came to the US at a very young age from the Philippines with my family and I saw my dad put in hours of hard work to take our 10 person family from a tiny two-bedroom apartment with fake walls to middle-class suburbia. I attribute my natural work ethic and drive to my parents because they taught me that you get out what you put in. Nothing was just handed to us, you know?

My story is important to me and whenever I meet someone with a similar story, it's an instant connection. That's how it was when Taby Davila and I met. She has an amazing story that starts with her family's attempts to cross the border into the US when she was very young. Now she's an incredibly successful entrepreneur with multiple businesses....

Stefanos Sifandos is one of my favorite people on Instagram. Everything he posts is just so insightful. He's a love and relationship coach - which I think everyone can learn from regardless of whether you're in a "good" relationship, "bad" relationship, or not in one at all. He works predominantly with men and channeling your masculine energy efficiently, but he also sees a lot of women one on one.

He's just really intelligent and I think the work he's doing on Instagram is something everyone needs to pay attention too because it's so important.
